Stephan August Schmidt-Wulffen
Stephan Schmidt-Wulffen is a German philosopher and art historian who works in the field of epistemology of arts and design. During the last 14 years as rector of the academy of fine arts Vienna (2002-2011) and as head of the New Design University St.Pölten (2011-2016) he engaged into the future development of universities. Since 2013 Schmidt-Wulffen is Honorary Professor for Aesthetics and Artistic Knowledge at the Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen. Schmidt-Wulffen studied philosophy, lingustics and communication design in Cologne, Constance and Wuppertal. Between 1992 and 2000 he was the director of the Kunstverein in Hamburg, connecting contemporary art to his teaching at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. Schmidt-Wulffen taught at different universities in Europe and the US. Since summer 2016 he holds a professorship for art theory at the Free University Bolzano.
