Sensory Rituals
The course introduces students to digital design tools and workflows, progressively building their ability to translate observations, concepts, and behaviors into three-dimensional digital models and visual outputs.
Throughout the year, students work through a series of exercises that combine observation, analysis, and design production. The course emphasizes both technical proficiency and conceptual development, with a strong focus on iterative processes and design thinking.
In the Winter Semester, the focus is on direct observation of everyday objects and their translation into accurate and resolved 3D models. Students learn the basics of digital modeling, form construction, and representation. The final exercise of the semester, Kitchen Appliances, asks students to design and model domestic objects by carefully studying function, ergonomics, and material logic.
In the Summer Semester, the focus shifts toward parametric design and generative processes. Students are introduced to Grasshopper as a tool for creating rule-based systems, patterns, and formal variations. The emphasis moves from static representation to dynamic systems, where form is driven by parameters, behaviors, and relationships.
the final exercise of the year, Sensory Rituals, brings together observation, body, and computational design. Students design a wearable system based on sensory perception.
