Typography and Graphics – A typeface and its era
A Typeface and its era. A research project.
Every Font has its story. Characters convey a meta-message in addition to the textual statement due to their formal nature. This must be taken into account when working with typefaces.
The Students research significant events that characterised the era in which a certain typeface was created. The character to be researched is provided to them by the lecturer. Some of the following topics, depending on the era, are proposed to be researched in context of the typeface:
product design, architecture, music, philosophy, fashion design, book design, graphic design, politics, science, brands
The result is to be presented in a back-stitched 60-page brochure with swiss binding and cover.
