How can one break the typographic rules while mantaining functionality?

ANDREA PALLADIO 1508 – 1580 (experimental editing)

Sara Moscatelli
Piera Pagnacco

This is a re-issue of a book about Palladio first published in 1984 by the ISTITUTO CULTURALE ITALO-TEDESCO MERANO – DEUTSCHATALIENISCHES KULTURINSTITUT – MERAN as part of the commemorations that took place for the 400th anniversary of the architect’s death.

The book is designed to be kept together with its classic version (the cover functions also as package for the two), with a matching and complementary cover that is complete when both books are together.

This experimental version is a big woodcover (30×35 cm) binded with archive rings with full page prints, allowing the reader to take them out of the book to appreciate them better while reading the essays. Moreover the images are enriched by transparent overlays that carry artistic interventions on the visual elements of Palladio’s works. It’s a book meant to be experienced more than just read.
