The world’s insatiable appetite for spices sparked trade routes that now span the globe. A spice – a food flavouring or something to burn, to add aroma to the air, from India to Europe, this demand gave rise to some of the earliest international trade routes and shaped the global economy still today. The King and the Queen of our common spices?
The Salt (China 6000 BC) and the Pepper (Southern India 2000 BC).
An essential type of minerals, they were also considered as “table accessories” since Louis XIV Versailles. A concrete monetary values through the years (from “salary” salarium).
Started from this research, a Salt and Pepper Shaker was created. Made out with different metals, brass and chromo-brass, the object is a combination of 6 differen. Welding, drilling, filing, metal modeling and polishing techniques were used.
In the “upper part” the spices come out through the holes on the cap of the covered side. In the “under part” instead, the spice is collected.
“Click”: a salt and pepper dispenser, ergonomic and clean. A dynamic line that with the closing “click” allows a very simple tubular structure to collect the material and spread it over the desired dish.
