How can design reassess the relationship between nature and humankind?

Enrosadira – Cultural perception vase

Trebo Matthias

This project should draw attention to an alternative to picking the natural plant. It should make people realize that they can also plant the plant in their garden. During the realization of the project, it was determined which object would be the most suitable to give this plant a suitable and honourable place. During the selection process I noticed that an ordinary flower pot could not reflect the cultural value of the plant. In general, I noticed that flower pots are usually only used as utility objects. It was immediately clear to me that designing an ordinary flower pot could not be worthy of the true value of the edelweiss. This vase should be superhuman in size, firstly to imitate the movements of picking under natural conditions and secondly to express the superiority of the plant and nature in general over man. A plant that is enthroned high above man and where man must reach up to touch it. This aspect was of great importance to me, because it should remind you that nature is above man and that mankind depends on nature. This is a truth that many people have forgotten in the last century and is experiencing a renaissance at this time. The form and the way one encounters the plant should imitate the natural condition as much as possible. Thus the 40x40x170 centimetre high vase simulates a mountain massif with all its ravines and peaks. The whole vase is made of dolomite limestone.

Planting. Tending. Picking.

Tools for Gardeners The word culture is derived from early farming, from agriculture and horticulture. It is based on those prehistoric activities that humans had to carry out to survive and to make the Earth their property. Agriculture is still very much practised in the same spirit, but today it is rational, mechanised and automated by using the latest digital technology. The culture of gardening, on the other hand, is the result of a human passion to create spaces with plants that are both aesthetically real and illusionary.
