How can a piece of furniture activate its user's manual ability?

Degree Project

Formability

Vincent Lindenmüller

Designed products are an inextricable element of our domestic environment and in almost every moment we interact with artifacts. However, the study of “formability” is centered around the role of the user. Enhanced incorporation of the user’s manual abilities and creative thinking could create a more lively relationship between the two actors.

We consume and accumulate products for different purposes, yet they often stay in their original form for years.

By encouraging the user to assemble and modulate the furniture, they could develop the capability to estimate structural properties but also learn about characteristics of the materials used.

In the flux of everyday life, with changing living situations, a modular  system enables us to spontaneously adapt furniture according to our needs. Initiating the process of composing a furniture system to enhance the creative confidence of the individual is the aim of the project.
