Would you order organs through the internet?

PlantingU – No more waiting for organs donors

In recent years, there has been a lot of research in the scientific field. One of the many experiments is the creation of animal and human cells from plants. The plants’ DNA and all the other stuff inside its living cells get washed away by detergents and solvents during the decellularization process. The remaining husks of evacuated cell walls, largely composed of cellulose, remain more or less intact—becoming a vessel to fill with human cells.

My project looks into the near future, where human organs are grown from plants and can be easily bought through online shops. The cozy, trusting, and familiar atmosphere, given from the website advertising, creates a contrast with the bizarre and often creepy appearance of the plants themselves, leaving the viewer with both a feeling of uncertainty and reassurance. The project is full of satire, and through humor aims to deal with current issues such as organ trafficking, organ donation, new scientific and chemical experiments, etc.

Space Is the Place

The exploration of the universe is no longer science fiction, but tough real economy. As in the decades of global colonialism, such «expeditions» clearly have territorial conquests and resources in mind. The project uses «future» as a kind of projection foil to mirror speculative ideas and to bring what is being imagined back down to earth and our present.
