Where you put the books that you are reading?

Soffietto – a magazines rack

Pietro Coda

“Soffietto” is a magazine and book holder to have next to the sofa at home.

It is inspired by a structure for drying hay on farms. Particularly by its mechanism which, by means of wooden grooves, allows it to stay in place but also folds to become flat.

The name ‘Soffietto’ refers precisely to the possibility of opening and closing the structure .

It consists of a wooden structure supporting a knitted fabric. This, interacting with the structure, creates two pockets where books, newspapers and magazines can be placed. in addition, the central stick can be used to hold the mark of the book being read. The structure is made of beech wood, which is durable and suitable for home furnishing. The knitted weave is made of cotton. The piece of cloth is attached to the structure by means of threads that run perpendicular to the weave and are threaded through the wooden structure. they also serve to increase the resistance to the weight of the books, so that the knitted fabric does not give way over time.

The contrast between the linear structure and the movement of the fabric knitted by Prad’s clients makes it an elegant but not banal object.
