Basic Equipment Program
BA Major Design Semester
2022/23 SS Our project for the topic „Basic Equipment“ was a portable „survival“ axe and a matching saw. In combination with a fitting carrying case for your hip belt, we created a system which is not only basic in terms of use but also basic regarding the design. With simpel shapes, such as the rectangular handle, we were stacking two lightweight CNC milled aluminum parts on top of each other. The grip itself is made out of brushed oak hardwood. To carry both the axe and the saw, hidden magnets under the oak grip are helping holding them magically together. To release the axe from the case, simply open the velcro-leather strap!
*For the purpose of the real life model, we used HPL material.

Basic Equipment
The course has been a collective experience and an individual exercise, started from an investigation on our ancestral needs as human beings, students developed a basic equipment to face a day in nature.
