Can an iconic tradition be elevated through functionality?

"Bari Type" 2.0

Silvia Scolamacchia

This accessory set for the table aims at redefining the Mediterranean tradition of wine tasting and infusion inspired by the Apulian ceramics craft from whose archeological designation the project takes part of its name. The set comprehends: a pitcher, cups, a telescopic infuser and its housing. The  material, clay, ensures the cool wine stays at a stable temperature, while the sleek spout of the pitcher evolves the typical one of Apulian ceramics ensuring a fine pour that maximizes oxygenation. When the infusion is complete the user removes the infuser and places it into its housing to taste the fruit separately. The project turns a historic rural archetype into a smoother experience that honors regional identity while embracing modern utility.

Designing How Things Feel (Right) - Usability & Emotional Interaction in Physical Products

How do objects shape experiences? This course explores the relationship between function, emotion, and interaction in product design. Through the development of an emotion-driven swing and a series of “Tasting Tools” centered around bread, chocolate, and wine, students investigated how design influences perception, behavior, and experience. The resulting projects demonstrate that products are not only used—they are experienced.
