How much of the avocado can be used?

No waste avocado kit

Liselotte Michelle Van Beveren

In a world increasingly focused on sustainability, the zero-waste movement emphasizes the importance of minimizing waste and reimagining materials as resources. For this project, the focus was on utilizing avocado waste. The kit with booklet provides complete transparency into the production process, demonstrating how alternative thinking can inspire us to view resources differently and use them with care.

This kit showcases a variety of materials created from avocado waste and its additional products.

The three primary materials featured in the kit are:

  • Avocado Soap
  • Avocado Board
  • Avocado Film

To produce these materials, additional products are first extracted during the process, including:

  • Avocado Oil
  • Avocado Pigment

Avocado peels, with their natural antibacterial and antioxidant properties, make them ideal for soap. The Avocado Board, on the other hand, can be used as a versatile sheet material for various applications, while the Avocado Film provides an eco-friendly alternative to plastic packaging, helping to reduce environmental impact.

DIY Material Kits

Orange peels, peanut shells, avocado seeds, the daily consumption of our favorite foods often goes together with leftovers. What if we give food waste a second life? Taking scraps as the starting point to create something new? With these Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Material Kits we document and share our hands-on research with recipes to inspire and enable (future) applications.
