Porcelain for Use. Exploring the Material and Its Processing. Program
BA Major Design Semester
2024/25 WS ACE explores accessibility in ceramics extrusion through an innovative production method. By democratizing an industrial technique, the project’s social impact permits individuals to engage in small-scale manufactury. ACE’s system is composed by a traditional silicone gun coupled with 3D-printed open-source components.
As practical application of the methodology of production designed, the project focuses on producing porcelain knobs and handles for furniture, highlighting the ACE’s versatility. The Accessible Ceramics Extruder follows the user-centered approach while demonstrating how the design practice can adapt to different needs and model the way it is perceived.

A project made in the course
Porcelain for Use. Exploring the Material and Its Processing.
This summer semester, a group of twelve design students from Germany, Italy, and Turkey explored the intersection of tradition and innovation in utility porcelain.
After conducting in-depth research into the history, culture, and myths surrounding the 'white gold,' they created practical porcelain items by experimenting with the material and its processing, combining traditional craftsmanship with digital production techniques.
The semester project culminated in a two-day realization workshop at the Drin & Dran Porcelain Manufactory in Munich, led by ceramist Elisabeth Klein, where all the designs showcased in this online exhibition were brought to life.
