Porcelain for Use. Exploring the Material and Its Processing. Program
BA Major Design Semester
2024/25 WS EN
This innovative porcelain product consists of two elegantly crafted pieces: a large plate and a removable central sauce bowl. The plate is designed with a shallow recess in the middle to perfectly accommodate the sauce bowl. This configuration allows the sauce to be conveniently placed in the center, while the surrounding area is ideal for organizing a variety of foods. The removable sauce bowl can be installed independently or removed, making it easy to refill or clean without disrupting the presentation of the dish. This versatile design enhances both functionality and aesthetic appeal, making it perfect for serving appetizers, snacks or main courses with dipping sauces.
A project made in the course
Porcelain for Use. Exploring the Material and Its Processing.
This summer semester, a group of twelve design students from Germany, Italy, and Turkey explored the intersection of tradition and innovation in utility porcelain.
After conducting in-depth research into the history, culture, and myths surrounding the 'white gold,' they created practical porcelain items by experimenting with the material and its processing, combining traditional craftsmanship with digital production techniques.
The semester project culminated in a two-day realization workshop at the Drin & Dran Porcelain Manufactory in Munich, led by ceramist Elisabeth Klein, where all the designs showcased in this online exhibition were brought to life.
