How can people be approached to alternative materials?

On Fiber

Arthur Paul Ottmann

On fiber deals with bioplastics and how to bring people closer to it. It is meant to invite people to play with materials by creating a custom object, a lamp.

The project deals with fibers, a structural concept to reinforce materials. We often see fibers in combination with resin in the applied on technological products, such as cars or bikes. Since the combination of fibers and resin is very hard to recycle, these materials are controversial regarding awareness of materials.

On fiber deals with fibers experimentally, using natural fibers and creating structures with bioplastics, that can be biodegraded easily anytime.

The fiber- structures serve as a lampshade. Consequently, the shields serve functionally to hold together the thin lampshade, to diffuse light coming from the lightbulb, but also aesthetically as a graphical stage to showcase the natural fibers, creating graphical ornaments showcased through light.

DIY Material Kits

Orange peels, peanut shells, avocado seeds, the daily consumption of our favorite foods often goes together with leftovers. What if we give food waste a second life? Taking scraps as the starting point to create something new? With these Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Material Kits we document and share our hands-on research with recipes to inspire and enable (future) applications.
