How can you show something invisible?

Invisible Barriers

RESEARCH

In our research, we delved into the world of stripclubs, untouched and unseen territories of sexuality and music. Our approach was very teoretical and we used as sources: scientific articles, books, music videos, videogames and movies. We encountered an atmosphere that is usually hidden from society and is still seen as a taboo by many people.

Strip clubs are a part of the clubbing culture, and although music is one of the main elements, it is mainly used to better sell a different type of entertainment.

EXHIBITION

The five objects displayed on the table are a conceptual representation of the stages in strip clubs. Through our study, we discovered the most important rule in a stripclub: customers are forbidden from touching the stripper. Also the stage is often defined as an extension of the stripper’s body and strenghtens the boundary that prevents physical contact.

These sculptures are an interpretation of the unseen barrier surrounding a strip club stage. They are crafted from acrylic chalk, scaled 1:25, with the stage’s height depicted through both the internal boundary and an external shift in texture.

A project made in the course

Disco Interno

The course dealt with the multiple spatialities of clubbing: from night clubs to raves in industrial buildings to parties in student apartments. The students were asked to research a topic of their choice within this macro-theme, and then to design an exhibition device to display the results of their research.
