What’s the Assignment? Program
BA Major Design Semester
2024/25 SS The "Monster Makery" assignment is a community practice between children and university students, designed to merge our different creative minds and create work together. Each student is paired with one child drawing first and then translating the other one’s work with modelling clay into a three dimensional form. The goal is to inspire and to be inspired, and to absorb the free spirited and unlimited thinking of children in order to open up our own minds and redefine our limits and rules.

A project made in the course
What’s the Assignment?
In march 2025, eighteen students signed up for our semester project in Visual Communication at the Faculty of Design at the University of Bolzano, mysteriously titled What’s the Assignment? The stated goals: learning by doing, learn from each other, learn how to learn. We laid out five initial assignments. They covered branding and storytelling, photography, self-improvement through concentration, label design, and modular composition.
