How can the experience of Berghain be translated into a exhibition object?

Beyond the facade

Catharina Kolk

This project centers on the theme of clubbing and offers an immersive exploration of Berghain, one of the most iconic and secretive clubs in the world. Through a two-part installation—an audio piece composed of anonymized interviews with regular visitors and a sculptural element made of concrete and industrial materials—visitors are invited to experience the atmosphere and mystery that define this unique space. The interviews, originally recorded and later re-voiced using AI voice technology to ensure privacy, reflect personal memories and perceptions of architecture, music, and time within the club. The installation aims to evoke the essence of Berghain while respecting the cultural code of discretion that surrounds it.

A project made in the course

Disco Interno

The course dealt with the multiple spatialities of clubbing: from night clubs to raves in industrial buildings to parties in student apartments. The students were asked to research a topic of their choice within this macro-theme, and then to design an exhibition device to display the results of their research.
