How do you perceive your own body?

CORPO CATARTICO

Giorgia Ruele

The project unfolds as a performative research on the conflicted relationship with one’s own body, through sculpture and video performance.

Starting from the discomfort linked to body perception, the artist creates wax reproductions of the body parts she would most like to change or modify – symbols of aesthetic pressures deeply internalized and imposed by contemporary society. The performance, presented as a video, culminates in the violent throwing of these replicas against a pure white cloth hanging on a wall – a gesture that stages the struggle against self-loathing and the unattainable ideals of beauty. An act of catharsis, a gesture of liberation.
