Would You Buy Yourself?

MENSCH™

Joela Maria Cugini

MENSCH is an installation that takes the form of a fictional brand to examine the relationship between the individual and contemporary society. Through a series of pseudo-therapeutic products, such as happiness pills, liquid thoughts, and personality spray, the work adopts the visual language of consumer culture and clinical packaging to expose the commodification of deeply human qualities. Presented as real, ready-to-use objects, the products create a moment of tension in which viewers may find themselves wondering whether they would actually buy them. This reaction reveals how strongly society promotes quick, standardized, and purchasable solutions for emotions, identity, and thought. MENSCH does not offer answers, but stages a paradox: when even what makes us human can be bought, the notion of authenticity becomes increasingly fragile.
