Bodies of remembrance as hybrid remedies
Clara Milla
Bodies of Remembrance as hybrid remedies , is a sculptural exploration rooted in a deep nostalgia for a time before humanity’s separation and isolation from its environment, and ultimately, from itself. This project questions the only reality the artists lived in, guided by an inner knowing that there is more to be felt, perceived, and embodied. Through this inquiry, something both new and deeply primordial is imagined and materialised into form. Between the primordial and the yet-to-be-created, sentient bodies emerge, carrying traces of interwoven agencies. These sculptures are not static objects but extensions of a reciprocal relationship, evolving closely around the artists body. The act of carrying them becomes an intimate gesture of interdependence, a physical dialogue between the self and material. The surfaces of these sculptures are layered with collected fibers, human hair, animal hair and fibers, plant matter, and fragments of other organic and synthetic materials, re-imagining a body that transcends individual identity into relational, hybrid forms of existence. Through this visualized reflection, Bodies of Remembrance questions human agency within dualistic cosmologies and invites an experience beyond them. It is an attempt to access a space before or beyond division, where material and being, self and world, coalesce.
