RIGID - A portable seating solution
Severin Piller
This lightweight chair is portable anywhere. Due to its flexible core, it always automatically unfolds.
This thesis explores the range of portable seating by examining its past and present uses, as well as the various types and mechanisms of folding chairs. Through the reproduction and testing of existing products, this project proposes a portable seating solution for travelers.
Foldable chairs are an essential part of furniture; however, there is still room for improvement and innovation. While many folding chairs already exist for different purposes, styles, and materials, this thesis aims to introduce something new. The goal is to design a product for the average person - someone who is not a professional but still wants to enjoy camping trips, hikes, or other outdoor activities.
Outdoor chairs have different requirements than indoor furniture. They must be safe, weather-resistant, and durable while still following key design principles such as structural integrity, joint quality, and material selection.
