What is a Superfurniture?

"KUB"

Federica Kozma

This is the semestral final project, the aim was to create a “superfurniture”, bigger than a furniture but at the same time smaller than a room.

I wanted to create a furniture that could divide a room into different  sections with a different function so that one or more people could use it at the same time.

My research started by deciding which spaces I wanted to combine. Since I wanted to create a piece that could be a shelter or a safe space I asked myself which are the parts of my home that make me feel at ease? This lead me to merge a bedroom, a studio and a tiny living space to chill.

Another fundamental element to keep in consideration was the lighting: natural light is relevant for me and more in general can affect in a positive way the mood of people, so it was crucial finding a way to enlight both sides of the furnishing.

Superfurniture

With Superfurniture we intend dispositives in the domestic environment that are too big to be considered a piece of furniture and too small to be considered a building. A piece of superfurniture contains simultaneously more of the functions that enable us to inhabit our homes. Could we imagine an interior containing a single object characterising the space surrounding it as a building does on its plot, instead of a series of items scattered within its volume? After having analysed a series of projects following such an approach in terms of occupation of the space, we started imagining our own personal piece of superfurniture…
