Casa Equilibrio is a Superfurniture designed to help families organise a small living space. It challenges the traditional family structure, which has long since been replaced by the image of the family we know today. Both parents work when the children are young, but at the same time it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a place in kindergarten for their children. As a result, the modern family spends much more time together at home, another reason being the advent of the home office. 

Casa Equilibrio offers a quiet side with a desk when parents need to concentrate. On the opposite side, the children can play and climb the stairs to the nap and relaxation area. The mesh structure of this area allows parents to keep an eye on their children while they work at the extendable table below. The middle area can generally be used for family time together, e.g. for playing games or watching a film while sitting on the sofa. There is also plenty of storage space here in the form of shelves with playful elements.

As a first exercise we have been given a Superfurniture to analyse. In my case it was Ettore Sottsass' installation for the 1972 exhibition “Italy: The New Domestic Landscape” at MoMA, showcasing many pieces by Italian artists and designers.
