How to Sex (Ed)?

birds & bees

Mariya Zorina

It is a project represented by an online platform that provides sex education materials for children and teenagers.

There are posted a board game with situational questions to be discussed with parents and comic booklets, divided by topic and age groups, made on the basis of articles and texts from reliable sources such as the World Health Organization, Sex Ed Rescue and Sex Positive Families.

Why “birds & bees”?
The phrase “the birds and the bees” is a term used to explain the mechanics of reproduction to younger children, relying on the imagery of bees pollinating and eggs hatching to substitute for a more technical explanation of sexual intercourse. But here we don’t use analogies that confuse children and they receive distorted information that builds an artificial picture of sex, relationships, anatomy, etc. On this platform you will find truthful information age-appropriate for children and teenagers of different ages.

It is devided by 5 chapters that provide different materials that talk about Sex Education in different manners. There are posted comic books, a board game with situational questions to be discussed and
a list of additional literature to provide you more knowledge on the topics that are interessted for you or your child. The information that comic books are based on is provided by reliable sources such as
the World Health Organization.

From the web-site you can access all of the comic books, download a pdf file in order to print a booklet at home and also accsess and print a board game with situational questions to be discussed, and look up all the books divided by age and order them from Amazon by clicking the link.

A project made in the course

The Pub Hub: publications practices as a playground for the production and circulation of knowledge

The course explores experimental publishing practices intended as a driver of social activation, the production and sharing of information and knowledge. Starting from the specific field of visual communication for editorial design, the broad perspective assumed leads to questioning the disciplinary boundaries and habits of editorial design. From basic elements of page layout, text and the image become characters of a staging that involves the variables of space and time. Producing, sharing and the use of verbo-visual content become an opportunity for discussion and dialogue in which to re-evaluate the public dimension.
