how to cope with loss, both on a personal and global level?

chaos (loss absence guilt despair)

Piera Pagnacco

This exhibition started with the choice of an object that was embodiment of chaos and randomness as good and enjoyable things, useful even in surprising ways.
Then when it was lost (maybe) that same thing, in its absence, became a way to show the other side of chaos: the unpleasantness and discomfort that comes every time we realize we don't have as much control as we like to believe.

The wall bears the signs of absence, both of the object and the caption. To be noticed and read both require an effort that mirrors the one made by the curator to admit and show their carelessness.

The audio, free to be experienced or not, tells the story of the absence, and explains the choice to give meaning to all aspects of chaos, even if it's a process that will never end.

A small decoration on the mp3 player states the guilt of creating a piece about a loss this small, in comparison with the amount of heartbreaking loss and despair caused to innocent people in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians.

A project made in the course

Who the fuck lives here?

The front door is slightly open, the doorbell still works, the security lock has been broken, the newspapers and post are piled up in front of the door. These signs are clear indications that nobody has lived here for a long time. Curiosity aroused, you venture into the flat anyway and are faced with a chaos of things you don't understand and the question arises: "Who the Fuck Lives Here?." The exhibition is a metaphor, and it tells the life story of an imaginary collector who has left behind traces of his life. Our fictitious collector is a construction, and our exhibited flat is also a flat used as an exhibition.
