How can we make Club-Mate better?

Club Mate

Meike Haun

Club-Mate is a sparkling mate iced tea. The beverage was invented in 1924 in Bad Köstritz, Thuringia.
In 1994, the Münchsteinbach-based brewery Löscher purchased the recipe for the lemonade-like drink based on mate tea and began producing and selling it. The drink’s breakthrough came in the 1990s when it gained increasing popularity, especially among the hacker and techno scenes in Berlin.

The predominant corporate design is based on the colors blue and yellow with red accents. The design is mainly influenced by South American elements, as the mate leaves for the drink are imported from South America. These influences are particularly evident in the shapes, design elements, and even the inline font of the logo.

Through the brand‘s redesign, Club-Mate appears in a more modern light without losing its charm and uniqueness. The colors have remained very similar, as they are an important recognition feature for the drink. The iconic 0.5-liter „NRW“ glass bottle model has also been retained. Various digital collage techniques were used to create the new look.
