Redkit - A first-help kit for study residence permit applicants
Emanueli Alessandra Da Silva
When I arrived in Italy, I started facing some difficulties with the bureaucratic system, the main one being the confusing and demanding request for a residence permit in the country. Coming from a non-EU country, a residence permit evolves showing paperwork, making requests, making appointments, and going to the police station, that showed to be a slow, confusing, lacking of information process, sometimes including impossible communication with the police office.
The main goal of this work was to develop a solution to fight the lack of quality information and help reducing the problems immigrants face with this bureaucratic process, by explaining what needs to be done in a friendly and accessible way, providing more information on documents and procedures, and creating a community. The project aimed university students of unibz that come from non-EU countries but has the capacity to be expanded to other groups and permit typologies.
Three solutions were developed as a visual communication project, including a paper brochure, a website and an online forum for experience exchange. These materials can improve the users experience with the system by making the process predictable and less insecure, clarifying documents, preventing doubts and offering answers to the questions that arise during the process. The project was based on self-experience, interviews, community exchanges and was developed in constant touch with other permit applicants to understand the best ways to communicate and what difficulties to tackle, and also translate the materials to more languages.
