NoMo - A modular sensory playground for every child
Annagiulia Ucci
NoMo is a sensory playground designed specifically for children with motor disabilities. Children who exhibit motor disabilities from a young age often also experience varying degrees of cognitive disabilities. Consequently, sensory stimulation is crucial for enhancing their mental capabilities, creating new stimuli and interests for them. NoMo focuses precisely on this objective. I become convinced that a solution that could meet as many needs as possible was needed. Initially, the goal was to transform existing playgrounds to make them 100% accessible for children with disabilities. However, this proved unfeasible, leading to a shift in perspective: the playground had to be designed specifically for children with motor disabilities, yet accessible and enjoyable for children without disabilities as well. Thus, NoMo emerged as an innovative playground, consisting of eleven elements that can be combined in various ways to provide a wide range of assembly options. These eleven components can be divided into nine modular tiles and two sensory elements that integrate with the existing tiles. NoMo is inclusive, comprehensive in all its parts, and both fun and stimulating. It is the perfect blend of inclusion and play, suitable for all children and designed for every child.
